Pine Beach separated from Berkeley Township and incorporated as its own borough in 1925. It is about 0.6 square miles with a little over 2,000 residents, laid out in quiet streets that run down to the riverfront and the Pine Beach Yacht Club. Beachwood wraps around it on the inland side, and Ocean Gate is the next borough downriver.
For most of the twentieth century the riverfront was also home to Admiral Farragut Academy, a naval preparatory school that kept its New Jersey campus in Pine Beach until the 1990s.
