Mystic Island is the largest section, about 8,300 people at the 2020 census, laid out from the late 1950s as bungalows on dredged lagoons so that nearly every street ends at water. Radio Road, its main line, takes its name from the Tuckerton wireless tower that once stood nearby, and it passes the memorial to the 1778 Pulaski skirmish. Great Bay Boulevard runs south past the lagoons into the Great Bay Boulevard Wildlife Management Area, the marsh road locals call Seven Bridges Road, out to the Rutgers marine field station at its end.
The whole township holds 20,784 people across about 73 square miles, more than a third of it water. Osborn Island, Parkertown, West Tuckerton and Giffordtown fill in around Tuckerton, and Route 539 carries traffic west to the Parkway and on into the Pinelands. Hurricane Sandy pushed water into much of Mystic Island in 2012, and many of the houses there have been raised or rebuilt since.
