Worked example. Say you bring a 22K bangle that weighs 24 grams.

1. Pure gold content: 24 grams × 0.917 = 22.01 grams of gold.
2. Convert to troy ounces: 22.01 ÷ 31.1035 = 0.7076 troy ounces.
3. Multiply by the market: 0.7076 × $S = the bangle's melt value at that moment.

Swap the purity decimal for any other karat: 10K uses 0.417, 14K uses 0.585, 18K uses 0.750, 24K uses 0.999. Note what the same 24 grams would give in 14K: 24 × 0.585 is 13.99 grams of gold, or 0.4498 troy ounces, well under two thirds of the 22K figure for identical weight.
