Gold ring appraisal in New Jersey

What determines what your gold ring is worth

A gold ring is really two things at once: a quantity of gold and, sometimes, a setting holding stones. Each part is evaluated separately, and the gold portion is what most of the value rides on.

Karat, the purity of the gold

Karat tells you how much of the ring is actually gold versus other alloy metals. The math is straightforward. A 10K ring is 41.7 percent pure gold, 14K is 58.3 percent, 18K is 75 percent, and 22K is 91.6 percent. The higher the karat, the more pure gold is packed into the same piece, and the more it carries at the live gold spot price. The karat stamp is usually inside the band, though it has to be confirmed by testing because stamps can be worn or wrong.

Weight

Once purity is known, weight decides the rest of the gold value. A heavy, wide band holds far more gold than a thin one of the same karat. We weigh the ring on a state-certified scale, and on rings with stones we account for the fact that the stones add weight that is not gold.

Gemstones, valued separately

Diamonds and colored stones are assessed on their own and are never lumped in with the metal. A ring can carry meaningful stone value on top of its gold, or the stones can be small accents with little resale impact. We look at each stone and tell you which case applies.

The live gold spot price

The gold portion of every ring is measured against the current spot price for gold, which moves throughout the trading day. That is why a value is always quoted relative to today's spot rather than as some fixed figure printed on a sign.

Broken, bent, or scrap is fine

A snapped band, a ring missing its stone, a single ring from a lost pair, or a tangle of damaged pieces all still hold their full gold value. Damage does not reduce what the gold is worth, so do not throw broken rings away or assume they are useless.

How we evaluate your gold ring at Cash 4 Gold Trading Post

The whole process is open and quick. We test your ring with a handheld XRF spectrometer, a non-destructive scan that reads the exact karat in about two minutes without scratching, filing, or harming the ring in any way. You watch the reading happen.

Once purity is confirmed, we weigh the ring on a New Jersey state-certified scale and show you the weight before any figure is discussed. The gold is then priced against the live spot, and any gemstones are assessed separately. You receive a clear offer with no obligation. Say yes and leave with same-day cash, or take the ring home, no pressure either way. We are family owned since 2012 with six New Jersey locations.

What to bring and where to go

No appointment is needed, just come in during business hours. Bring the ring or rings, any loose stones that may have fallen out, and a valid photo ID, which New Jersey law requires for precious-metal transactions. Broken and mismatched pieces are welcome.

Our default store is Manalapan at 356 Route 9 North, Unit 6, Manalapan NJ 07726, which you can reach at (732) 483-4145. We also have locations in Brick, East Brunswick, Middlesex, Millstone, and New Brunswick. Pick whichever of the six is most convenient.

Gold Ring Value Questions

How do you figure out what a gold ring is worth?

We confirm the karat with an XRF test, weigh the ring on a certified scale, price the gold against the live spot price, and assess any gemstones on their own. Those pieces together form the value, which we explain before you decide anything.

Will you buy a broken gold ring?

Yes. A broken band, a ring missing a stone, or a single ring from a lost pair all keep their full gold value. Damage does not change what the gold itself is worth.

What does the karat number mean for value?

Karat is the purity of the gold. 10K is 41.7 percent pure, 14K is 58.3 percent, 18K is 75 percent, and 22K is 91.6 percent. Higher karat means more pure gold in the same piece, which carries more at the live spot price.

Do the diamonds in my ring add to the value?

They can. Diamonds and colored stones are assessed separately from the gold. Some stones carry real value on top of the metal, while small accent stones may add little. We examine each one and explain which applies.

Is the test free?

Yes. The XRF test and the assessment are free, and there is no obligation to sell. You can accept the offer or take your ring home.
