Coin and stamp dealer: do you buy both coins and stamps?
Yes. We buy coins and stamp collections, and most sellers bring them in together because they came out of the same desk drawer, closet or estate. You do not have to split the collection between two shops or sort it first. Bring it as it is and we go through it with you.
To be plain about where our strength is: coins and precious metals are what we do every day. Stamps are bought as collections, albums, stock books and accumulated lots, the same way we buy postcard albums and other collectibles. A single rare stamp you believe is a major piece is still worth bringing in, and we will tell you honestly what we see.
What a coin and stamp collection usually holds, and how each part is judged
| Item | What we look at | How it is valued |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-1965 U.S. dimes, quarters and half dollars | Date and silver content (90% silver) | By weight against the live silver price, plus any collector premium |
| Morgan and Peace dollars | Date, mintmark and condition | Silver content or collector value, whichever is higher |
| U.S. and world gold coins, bullion coins | Purity confirmed by XRF, weight on a certified scale | Against the live gold price, plus collector value where it applies |
| Proof sets, mint sets, key dates, error coins | Condition and current price guides and auction results | By collector value |
| Stamp albums, stock books and loose stamp lots | Age, country, condition, and whether stamps are mint or used | As a collection, with the stamps that carry value named for you |
Coins are tested with an XRF analyzer that reads the metal, and weighed on a state-certified scale in front of you. You hear each part of the offer with the reasoning before you decide anything.
What makes an old stamp collection worth more?
Condition decides most of it. Stamps that are unused with clean original gum, well centered, with full perforations and no thin spots or tears are the ones collectors pay for. Older stamps, stamps from countries collectors follow closely, and complete sets add value. Common used stamps from the last several decades are usually worth little on their own, which is why a collection is judged as a whole.
- Leave stamps in the album. Peeling hinged stamps out or soaking them off paper can damage them. Bring the album as it is.
- Do not clean coins. Polishing or wiping a coin can remove collector value that cannot be put back. Bring coins as they are, in their holders or rolls.
- Bring any paperwork. Old receipts, catalog notes or certificates help, but none are required.
- Bring a valid photo ID. New Jersey requires it for every precious-metal sale.

Find your nearest of our 8 storesSelling coins and stamps: questions sellers ask
How do I sell old stamps and coins?
Bring both to one of our 8 stores together, without sorting or cleaning anything. Coins are tested and weighed in front of you, stamp albums are evaluated as a collection, and you hear one offer with each part explained. Accept and you are paid in cash the same visit; decline and everything goes home with you.
Where is the best place to sell an old stamp collection?
A place that looks at it in person and tells you what it sees, so you are not packing albums into a box and waiting on an offer by mail. We evaluate stamp collections free at every store, and when stamps come with coins you can sell both in one visit.
How do you get coins appraised without getting ripped off?
Watch every step. Our coins are tested on an XRF analyzer whose reading you see on the screen and weighed on a state-certified scale at the counter, and the offer is explained as metal value and collector value. You can leave with your coins at any point, with no fee.
Should I take stamps out of the album before selling?
No. Removing hinged stamps or soaking them off paper can damage them. Bring the albums as they are and we go through them with you.
