Brick, NJ has a long history of coin collectors. The Ocean County community has residents who have been accumulating coins for decades, and when the time comes to sell, the question is always where to go. Cash 4 Gold Trading Post at 921 Cedar Bridge Ave has been the answer for Brick-area sellers since we opened.
What a Real Coin Shop in Brick Looks Like
A legitimate coin shop does three things: it buys coins for fair prices, it evaluates numismatic coins correctly, and it explains every step of the pricing process to you. Cash 4 Gold Trading Post does all three.
We are a licensed precious metals dealer and a cash buyer of coins. We do not do consignment. We do not take coins on trade. We pay cash the same day you come in, based on current market prices and our assessment of each piece.
Coins We Buy in Brick
Silver coins from the pre-1965 era are the bread and butter of what we see. Roosevelt dimes, Washington quarters, Franklin half dollars, Kennedy halves from 1964, and Morgan and Peace silver dollars. If it was minted before 1965 and it is a US coin, there is a strong chance it contains 90% silver.
Eisenhower dollars and Kennedy half dollars from 1965 to 1970 are 40% silver. They have less silver per coin than pre-1964 pieces but still have metal value above face.
State quarters, Presidential dollars, and modern clad coins have no silver content and typically no numismatic premium either. We tell you that honestly rather than letting you believe every old coin has value.
Gold coins we buy at our Brick location:
American Gold Eagles: the most common gold bullion coin in the US. Available in 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz sizes. All contain stated weights of pure gold. We pay close to spot because they are liquid and easy to price.
American Gold Buffalos: .9999 pure gold. Same pricing approach as Eagles.
Pre-1933 US gold coins: Liberty and Saint-Gaudens designs in $2.50, $5, $10, and $20 denominations. These are genuinely old gold coins with potential numismatic value above their gold weight. We look up recent auction results for key dates and grades before pricing them.
Foreign gold coins: Krugerrands, Maple Leafs, British Sovereigns, Swiss Helvetia gold francs, French Napoleon gold coins. Each gets assessed individually.
How We Test Coins
Precious metal content is verified through a combination of methods. Modern bullion coins from reputable mints are weighed on our certified scale. An American Gold Eagle should weigh exactly 33.93 grams total with 31.1 grams of pure gold. A coin significantly over or under that weight has a problem.
For coins where purity is uncertain, our XRF analyzer reads the metal composition without damaging the coin. Tungsten-filled gold fakes, gold-plated coins, and other counterfeits fail immediately on XRF. We catch fakes so you do not end up with one.
Silver coins are weighed and spot-tested. Pre-1965 US coins have consistent silver content by design, but we still verify.
Numismatic coins get visual examination under magnification. Grade affects value significantly. A Morgan dollar in VF-30 versus the same coin in MS-63 can be worth three to ten times more at the MS grade. We are not professional coin graders and do not provide formal PCGS or NGC grades, but we identify obvious high-grade pieces and price them accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do you buy proof sets and mint sets?
Yes. Proof sets contain coins struck with special dies for collector quality. Silver proof sets from 1992 onward contain 90% silver coins and have real metal value. Earlier clad proof sets have limited value unless they are in original packaging with all coins present. Mint sets vary by year and composition. Bring them in and we will evaluate each set.
What is the best way to store coins before selling?
Keep them in their current holders or albums if possible. Do not clean coins before bringing them in. Cleaning removes toning and surface metal, which actually reduces numismatic value. A naturally toned, uncirculated Morgan dollar in original condition is worth more than one that has been polished or dipped. When in doubt, do not touch.
How much silver is in a pre-1965 quarter?
A pre-1965 Washington quarter contains 0.1808 troy ounces of pure silver. At a silver spot price of $34 per troy ounce, that single quarter has a silver melt value of about $6.15. A roll of 40 pre-1965 quarters contains 7.23 troy ounces of silver, worth approximately $245.82 at that spot price.
Do you buy coins from estates?
Yes, estate coin collections are a common situation. If a family member passed away and left a coin collection, bring it in as-is. We sort through everything, identify what has value, and give you a clear breakdown by category. We handle this regularly and understand it is often an unfamiliar process for families who did not collect themselves.
